![]() But acknowledging the fact, that to really understand the task at hand of moving the iceberg you have to dive to see the underlying hidden ice, can be powerfulĪpplying this analogy on your business, you can say that looking at the whole iceberg, you will find the underlying challenges - the root causes preventing you from achieving extraordinary results. It is overwhelming that 90% of the ice is not visible for us. So, to move the whole iceberg you must move both the visible part over the water and the invisible mass lying under the surface. You have to dive under to see the bulk of it … the nature of physics is amazing. About 90% of an iceberg's volume (and mass) is underwater. And I believe that all companies, that are winners achieving extraordinary results, have found the hidden part of their iceberg. The greatest results come from knowing the invisible sides, the underlying factors. More often than not, in a high paced environment, many will settle with the visible part that can easily be seen and addressed ultimately never achieving the intended outcomes. While you can easily see the visible tip, it can be extremely hard to identify the invisible underlying mass of the iceberg. This is where I find an iceberg to be a great analogy for the challenge you will be faced with. ![]() In figuring out how to realize your vision, creating the momentum required to reach the final destination, it’s natural to strive for a holistic approach. The much harder bit is to figure out how to get there and then execute on it. Often it is easy to identify where you want to go. In my role as a CEO, I find myself constantly pushing the organization in a direction, creating movement and momentum. Adaption and survival often go hand in hand and extraordinary success comes from willingness to see a different future. Many of the worlds leading CEO’s, supported by a huge part of the academic leadership profession, think of driving change and creating movement as the essence of leadership.
